Training Content Students Actually Want to Watch

The University of Illinois Chicago originally approached INDIRAP to edit pre-existing content into a safety video, providing students with the information they’d need to know in an emergency situation. Thanks to our stellar communication, intentional approach, and quality work, UIC was happy with their final video and has used it for many years.

The University then partnered with INDIRAP again, this time to create an entire Safety Educational video series, an orientation that gives students and staff alike all the tips and information they’d need about navigating the UIC campus safely. Our team scripted, storyboarded, coordinated with talent both on screen and in voice over production, produced, shot and edited the campaign.

THE CHALLENGE

While UIC needed to communicate a lot of information with accuracy, they still wanted to truly engage their diverse audience, making sure they retained what they were learning to ensure a safe, happy campus experience.

They also wanted these videos to remain evergreen as long as possible, which means flexible language, avoiding mentioning dates, and not using team members on camera.

THE SOLUTION

INDIRAP and UIC’s team divided the information up into 8 clear topics, starting with a Welcome Video, creating more digestible, bite-sized pieces of content. From there, INDIRAP’s team drafted 8 scripts for the UIC team’s review, all designed to speak well to their audience via voice over. These were quickly approved, thanks to our understanding of UIC’s brand and the target audience.

INDIRAP then began on storyboards, pairing visuals that portrayed and emphasized each line of scripts. Once the full shotlists were finalized, we moved into casting.

UIC pulled from their student body, selecting a diverse group of talent to work with us. The INDIRAP team gathered each student’s availability for our 3 shoot days, and then did the intricate work of pairing each student with storylines that would result in not only consistent storylines, but a large variety of faces in each of the 8 final pieces.

Our work in scheduling the production days, leading each talent through the process, and creating a fun environment onsite helped us turn our planned storyboards into stunning, engaging, and on brand visuals.
